Prof. Victor Kwame Agyeman is the Director-General of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), since January 2015. He is a Chief Research Scientist and also regarded as one of the leading authorities on Tropical Forest Ecology in Africa.
Prof. Agyeman holds a B.Sc (Hons) in Natural Resources Management in 1985 from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Ghana. Subsequently, he undertook his M.Phil research work at KNUST under a ‘Sigma (ø)’ Research Grant for Young Scientists’. In 1990, he did his Ph.D at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland, U.K. He continued pursuing higher education by obtaining LLB (Law degree) from KNUST, and a Qualifying Certificate/Barrister-at-Law (QC/BL) from the Ghana School of Law in 2012.
In 1985, Prof. Agyeman joined CSIR’s Forestry Research Institute of Ghana (CSIR-FORIG), and in 1990 he was promoted to Senior Research Scientist at the Institute. He was appointed the Head of the Natural Forest Management Division (NFMD) in 1996. Between 2000 and 2001, Prof. Agyeman served as Management Consultant on a World Bank supported sector wide Natural Resources Management Programme (NRMP), which was executed by the then Ministry of Lands, Forestry and Mines (MLFM). Upon his return to CSIR-FORIG in January 2004, he was promoted to the rank of Principal Research Scientist (PRS). In 2007, he was appointed the Director of CSIR-FORIG. Having relevant qualification and expertise, Prof. Agyeman has also rendered his services as a Solicitor and Barrister of the Supreme Court of Ghana.
Prof. Benjamin Jabez Botwe Nyarko was born on 23rd January 1962. Prof. Nyarko graduated from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, in 1990 with a B.Sc. (Hon.) degree in Physics. He was awarded Master of Philosophy degree in Physics in 1999 from the University of Ghana, Legon and a Ph.D degree in Physics through International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) “sandwich” programme between Dalhousie University, Halifax, Canada and University of Cape Coast, Cape coast, Ghana in 2007.
He taught Physics at St. Peter’s Secondary School, Kwahu-Nkwatia, from September 1991 to October 1994. Appointed Assistant Research Scientist at the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission (GAEC) in 1994. He was upgraded to the position of a Research Scientist in June 1999 after completion of his M.Phil degree. Nyarko gained accelerated promotion to the rank of Senior Research Scientist in April 2002. He was promoted to the rank of Principal Research Scientist in January 2007 and a Chief Research Scientist in June 2010. Nyarko was the head of the Neutron Activation Analysis (NAA) Laboratory at the Ghana Research Reactor-1 (GHARR-1) Centre from 2002 to 2007.
He served as the Head of Department of Nuclear Engineering and Materials Science from February to August 2007 He was appointed the Director of National Nuclear Research Institute, GAEC on September 1, 2007. He was appointed the Deputy Director General of GAEC on 1st June 2011 and later appointed the Director-General of GAEC on 1st March 2012. GAEC conferred on him the title of Associate Professor in March 2008 and a full Professor on 1st February 2012 in Applied Nuclear Physics. He is a lecturer in Nuclear Engineering, Applied Nuclear Physics and Nuclear and Radiochemistry at the Graduate School of Nuclear and Allied Sciences (SNAS), University of Ghana (UG). He is currently a Council Member of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).
